Video surveillance currently experiences major technology shifts offering new opportunities and broad perspectives but, in reality, a huge base of installed systems has to be taken into account. Coaxial cabling and infrastructure still afford rugged and proven environments, as well as cost-effective maintenance operations. On the other hand, the digital IP world offers huge flexibility allowing video to be viewed, analyzed and stored anywhere.

Moreover, the video signals generate large amounts of data that require compressing for transmission over the IP network as well as for compact recording. With the Picolo.net SD2, installers do not need to trade off convenient state-of-the-art IP technology against the cost-effectiveness of analog PAL/NTSC systems. They are able to combine the advantages of traditional analog CCTV systems with the advantages of IP networks, streaming analog PAL/NTSC video over IP.

The Picolo.net SD2 is an IP video encoder for two video and two audio inputs. It delivers two encoded streams per camera, each either H.264 or MJPEG. These two encoded streams are fully and independently configurable in terms of resolution (from full D1 to QCIF and QVGA for MJPEG), frame rate and bit rate (CBR, VBR for H.264). This two-camera-input encoder delivers a total of four encoded video streams over IP. The Picolo.net SD2 features audio capabilities. It is equipped with two analog line-level mono audio inputs.

The Picolo.net SD2 IP video encoder is easy to integrate into video surveillance systems as it features an ONVIF 1.02 compliant interface which guarantees interoperability. It also supports the alarm inputs, the relay outputs and the PTZ control of cameras.

The Picolo.net SD2 is available in multiple configurations. Out of the box, it can be placed on any surface or wall mounted. A DIN rail mount clip is also included. An optionally supplied 19-inch rack mount accessory combines four Picolo.net SD2 encoders in a single 19-inch rack module leading to a total of eight video inputs per module. Other accessories such as power supply and US, UK or European power cables are also available.

The Picolo.net SD2 is compatible with several network security protocols including the secure HTTPS, and the encrypted SSL/TLS network protocols.
